Who owns our tenant and our data?
You do — plainly and without exception. It is your Microsoft 365 tenant, licensed in your name, and every mailbox, file, and Teams conversation in it belongs to your business. We administer it on your behalf; we do not hold it hostage, and you can take administrative control back at any time.
What happens to a departing employee's mailbox and files?
Access is revoked immediately on the date you specify, and the mailbox and OneDrive content are preserved or converted to a shared mailbox rather than simply deleted, so nothing a departing employee was working on disappears with them.
